Day-3 - Trail

Breakfast.  Load pack mules. We begin in earnest our jungle trek.  Hiking is alternated with riding on mules or horses.  The pace is leisurely to ensure a full appreciation of the surroundings.  All meals on trail and dinner in camp.

Day-4 - Trail

Breakfast.  Continue on trail. Since the trail passes through low-land rain forest, there is ample opportunity to spot numerous varieties of bromeliads and orchids along the way.  Arrive at El Mirador site by evening.  All meals on trail and dinner in camp.

Day-5 - El Mirador

All day to explore this monumental site that encompassed the largest area in square miles than any other known Maya site, and what is considered the ultimate Mayan archaeological destination.  Explore fortification walls, causeways, temples of El Dante, El Tigre, Mono, and all other sections discussed in the September 1987, issue of "National Geographic".  All meals and overnight at campsite within the ruins.

Day-6 - El Mirador / Trail

Breakfast.  Load pack mules and begin return trek towards Carmelita.  Because of its remoteness, difficult access, and slight disturbance by humans, the bird life is astonishing.  Meals and camp on trail.

Day-7 - Trail / Carmelita / El Remate

Breakfast.  Second day on trail.  Lunch on trail. Arrive in Carmelita by evening.  Overland to El Remate.  Overnight accommodations in Hotel La Casa de Don David*** or similar.
